How to Become a New York City Licensed MASTER PLUMBER
Where the required level of experience requires supervision from a licensed Master Plumber, the application must include documentation that proves you have the required work/educational experience under the direct supervision of a licensed Master Plumber in the jurisdiction within which you obtained your experience. The Department of Buildings requires payroll records, notarized or sealed letters from employers that detail the type of work performed, and any other documents the Department requests.

As per the NYC Building Code, all Licensed Master Plumbers and Licensed Master Fire Suppression Piping Contractors need to take a 7-hour continuing education class. The Code dictates that you can take that course anytime within the 2-years prior to your expiration. We advise taking this course in advance so that you don’t get penalized with late fees or find yourself in a position that you can’t take a class before your license expires. Note that you need to renew your license between 60 and 30 days prior to your expiration date. Failure to do so during this time, will result in a late fee.
